Matt and I love books. We probably have our parents to thank considering we both had many books in the house growing up. And what a wonderful thing to pass down the family, right? I sure hope we pass on the same hankering for literature to our (unborn) children.
With the new year, and a new kindle for me (thanks Matt!), what better time to draft a reading list? So bring it on my fellow bookworms, what books should we plan to read in 2011?
And to return the favor, here are a few books we read in the last year or two that we think you'd enjoy: The Elegance of the Hedgehog, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society, The Art of Racing in the Rain, Breakfast with Budha, The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo (and Matt read the sequels too), Middlesex and our very top pick, The Help. We actually listened to The Help in the car so I might actually read it myself this year. But you must must must read or listen to this book. The audio version is very well done, I recommend it and am happy to loan it out -- just ask!
And books already on our shelf and/or kindle that we hope to read this year: Book Thief, My Horizontal Life, Stones into Schools, Water for Elephants and the rest of the Dragon Tattoo series (for me).

Hello Cara!! Megs forwarded me your book blog since she & I had a recent conversation on books :)
ReplyDeleteWater for Elephants was great!! I highly recommend, Freedom, Little Bee & The Glass Castle. Loved those books. Wally Lamb's first two books: I know this much is true & She's come undone are great too. And books I am looking forward to in 2011: The Help :), Snowflower & the Secret Fan, Saving Max & House Rules.
Happy Reading!!
Oh and one more: The Secret History (Donna Tartt) that is an oldie but goodie :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melissa! You've got a nice list started for me. I think I'll start with Water for Elephants then (once I finish the trashy Chelsea Handler book I'm reading).
ReplyDeleteYou are going to LOVE the Help, I'm sure Megan told you the same thing. :)
I don't have any recommendations for you but wanted to tell you I finally started Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and have just gotten officially sucked in. Looking forward to the rest. I think The Help isn't just one of my favorite books of 2010, but one of my all time favorites. It has stayed with me. You've red Kite Runner and A thousand splendid suns? Those two have stayed with me as well.
